The Committee for Protecting Rights of Prisoners successfully conducted a sensitization meeting in the Batticaloa District, bringing together lawyers, journalists, and civil society representatives to strengthen their understanding of prisoners’ rights.
This program focused on:
- Increasing awareness on Prisoners’ Rights
- Understanding the Nelson Mandela Rules (UN Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners)
- Discussing the current situation of Sri Lanka’s prison system
- Encouraging collaborative efforts for justice and humane treatment
Through this initiative, CPRP aims to empower key stakeholders to advocate for dignity, fairness, and much-needed reforms within the prison system. The active participation and valuable insights from attendees made this session a meaningful step toward building a more just and humane society.
